What is a TCT annular core cutter?
A TCT (Tungsten Carbide Tipped) annular core cutter is a hollow cylindrical drill bit that removes a solid core of metal instead of grinding the entire hole into chips. It cuts up to 3× faster than twist drills, requires 50% less torque, and produces clean burr-free holes from 12mm to 80mm diameter at 50mm depth. Used with magnetic drilling machines for structural steel, pipe fabrication, and heavy industrial work.
What materials can Strovolt cutters drill?
Strovolt TCT annular cutters drill mild steel, stainless steel (304/316), cast iron, structural steel, alloy steel, and high-tensile alloys up to 1200 N/mm² tensile strength. The K20 grade tungsten carbide tips with 92 HRA hardness handle the toughest industrial applications including bridge construction, pipeline fabrication, and shipbuilding.
TCT vs HSS annular cutter — which should I buy?
TCT (Tungsten Carbide Tipped) cutters last 5-10× longer than HSS (High-Speed Steel) cutters in tough materials, cut faster, and stay sharp at higher temperatures. Choose HSS if you mostly drill mild steel and aluminium and want lower upfront cost. Choose TCT when you cut stainless steel, cast iron, hardened alloys, or do high-volume production work — the longer life pays back many times over.
Which carbide burr shape do I need?
Pick by the cut you need to make:
- Shape A (cylindrical): general surface work, right-angle corners
- Shape D (ball): contour work, undercuts, rounded grooves
- Shape F (round arc): blending and concave surfaces
- Shape G (pointed cone): countersinks and bevels
- Shape L (tree pointed): shaping cavities
- Shape M (cone, pointed end): chamfering and counter-boring
